1813 Crossing of the Rhine River, Kaub – Pfalzgrafenstein Castle

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Amidst a long and eventful local history, Burg Pfalzgrafenstein also played a prominent and pivotal role as intermediate anchorage for the pontoon bridge completed on December 31, 1813 to allow Feldmarschall Blücher ca. 50000-strong army to cross the Rhine River with about 18000 horses and 200 cannons, and progress towards Paris.

In addition, other Corps of Allied Forces, Prussian, Russian, Austrian and Swedish, would simultaneously cross the Rhine at various other places : Basel and Mannheim, upstream, and Coblenz, downstream.

Simultaneously, Lord Wellington, leading the Anglo-Luso-Spanish-Hanoverian coalition, was completing the Liberation of the Iberian Peninsula from that same régime.
