English: 181013-N-GR168-1071 ATLANTIC OCEAN (October 13, 2018) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Airman Apprentice Jared Carter, left, from Johnson City, Tennessee, eats the first piece of cake as the youngest sailor aboard the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21) as Lt. Merlin Stephan, a Navy chaplain assigned to the Combat Logistics Battalion, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, the oldest sailor aboard the New York, holds the cake symbolizing the passing of knowledge and experience from the oldest to youngest sailor October 13, 2018. USS New York (LPD 21) recently departed Mayport, Florida to participate in Trident Juncture 2018. Trident Juncture 18 is a NATO-led exercise designed to certify NATO response forces and develop interoperability among participating NATO and partner nations.
