17th century open work button
Description
English: Incomplete 17th century copper alloy, open cast button with integral loop. This button is hollow with six triangular perforations in the front, arranged around a central nipple, and six in the back. The attachment loop has a rectangular shank and an oval loop, which is incomplete. The button has a light green patina with large areas of orangey copper disease with a heavily abraded surface. It is 17.88mm long with a diameter of 11.34mm and weighs 1.48g. A direct parallel can be found in Margeson, 1993,page 21, number 102.
