| Description |
English: 1780 masonry surrounded gravestone, Penbryn church. This gravestone is surrounded by neat masonry, and is covered in various lichens. This and other old churchyards in this part of Pembrokeshire, have similar monuments from this period. Maybe the masonry surround is to both make a bigger statement and protect the gravestone somewhat from erosion by the elements. This one has a 1780 date, and the lettering is still clearly readable. Penbryn is a beautiful old church, set in an ancient circular churchyard, isolated on a hilltop site - an aerial view can be seen here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=886140.kml |
