A view taken from Point Pleasant Battery and Black Rock Point at Point Pleasant, looking north to Citadel Hill (Fort George) and showing Fort Massey, Grand Battery (the Lumber Yard),Camp Hill and, south and west of both Fort Massey and Fort George, the pitched tents of various temporary military encampments. The artist, Lieutenant Colonel Edward Hicks, was stationed in Halifax from 1778 to 1782 with the 70th Regiment of Foot. His artwork graphically documents the posting of thousands of soldiers and sailors to the young settlement during the later years of the War of the American Revolution.
