Description
Polski: Mamy ponad 7000 zdefiniowanych chorób rzadkich. Niektóre z nich dotykają zaledwie kilku osób w całej europie. Ale w sumie na rzadkie choroby choruje około 7 procent populacji. Stanowią one zagrożenie życia lub powodują przewlekłą niepełnosprawność.

Skąd się biorą, jak je leczyć, jakie badania pomagają w diagnozowaniu i leczeniu i jaka jest przyszłość medycyny w tym zakresie? Między innymi na te tematy rozmawiam w Oksfordzie z Katarzyną Chwalenia. Głównym tematem jej prac badawczych są zaburzenia nerwowo-mięśniowe i opracowanie leków na genetyczne choroby pediatryczne. Te dolegliwości są skutkiem Dystrofii mięśniowej Duchenne’a, choroby genetycznej powodującej postępujący i nieodwracalny zanik mięśni. Zapraszam Borys Kozielski
