Title |
16th century knife end cap |
||
Description |
English: A copper-alloy knife end cap of 16th century AD date. The object is three dimensional and depicts a (?baby) girl's head and part of the torso. The head is angular in appearance, with defined corners. The eyes, nose, and mouth are faintly depicted and the face is framed on three sides by a headdress, the back of which is shown by representations of vertical folds. The neck is the narrowest point of the figure and the start of the 'torso' is hexagonal in section. The knife blade would have slotted into the transverse groove in the base of the terminal. Traces of iron corrosion can be seen at this point. The object is slightly worn and corroded. It measures 23.5mm high by 12.9mm wide and 8.2mm thick. It weighs 11.08g. |
