Compare nomenclature of "colony" with "habitation"

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The 1684 Franquelin Map, left, shows the word for La Salle's settlement on the Illinois River as a "Colony," indicating a later stage of map creation than "Habitation," which appears on the detail on the right. The map on the right is described in the Newberry Library Ayer Collection as 1685. This is easily challenged (elsewhere), the map is a La Salle Map, with cumulative changes, the last of which would be 1683. Thus it is the earliest map of the North American Heartland, the first map with the Chicago-word on it,and the only extant map of LaSalle. Both maps have the Chicago word.
