Description |
A view 1576 Duxberry Avenue, with boarded up windows, before renovation. It was probably a house involved in the Columbus Urban Homesteading Program. The lottery program was begun in 1975 by the Department of Development for a way to rehabilitate inner city neighborhoods. Lottery winners were sold a house for $1. In return, they agreed to rehabilitate the homes and live in them for at least four years before gaining a clear property title. The houses were purchased by the city from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
