Deutsch: Vergil (Publius Vergilius Maro); röm.
Dichter, später im Mittelalter als Prophet gedeutet. Vergil lebte etwa von 70v.- 19n. Christi. Eine Zeit, in der es weder Bücher (ab 5. Jh.) noch Brillen (ab 13. Jh.) gab. Ein klassisches Beispiel für vorgreifende Anachronismen. Während dieses Bild vom, aus Münster stammenden, Ludger tom Ring dem Älteren (1496–1547) um 1538 entstammt, malte sein Sohn Hermann tom Ring (1521–1596) Mitte des 16. Jh. das gleiche Motiv in sehr ähnlicher Darstellung, auch mit langem zweigeteilten Bart, Buch und jetzt dunkler Nietbrille. |
