Description1536 U Street, N.W..JPG |
English: Offices for the Center for Community Change located at 1536 U Street NW (intersection of 16th Street, New Hampshire Avenue, and U Street) in Washington, D.C. Built in 1921 as a Paige-Jewett automobile dealership, the Classical Revival commercial building is designated a contributing property to the Sixteenth Street Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. In addition to the Paige-Jewett dealership and the Campaign for Community Change headquarters, 1536 U Street NW has served as offices for the Northwest Family Center and the Multicultural Services Division (health agencies operated by the D.C. government), headquarters for Marion Barry's Pride, Inc. (also known as the Pride Building or Pride Headquarters during that time period), and offices for the National Radio Institute, a radio correspondence school. |
