Title
14th-century rectangular buckle, reverse
Description
English: A worn medieval cast copper-alloy rectangular buckle. The frame has slightly convex sides, with a ridge near each corner. The outer edge is thick, and features three filed central transverse grooves with a further pair, each one adjacent to the sides. The pin is missing. The bar is offset and narrowed. This buckle dates from the medieval period and it is almost identical to an example illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 96-97; ref. 438) which is dated to the second half of the fourteenth century.
