Built in 1897, the brick, Queen Anne Style home originally served as the residence of Major General William Harding Carter, a veteran of the Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, and World War I; recipient of the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Medal; and an author of several books. The building is designated as a contributing property to the Dupont Circle Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. |
