Summary
[edit]Description1401 I Street NW - Washington DC - top-floor pilasters and entablature.JPG |
English: Architectural detail of 1401 I Street NW in Washington, D.C., in the United States. This image shows a non-structural colonnade topped by an entablature on top floor of the building's east facade.
The building was designed by Vlastimil Koubek and constructed in late 1967. Originally a glass-and-steel box, it underwent a renovation in 1991. It was given a postmodern facade of finished grey concrete panels and brown granite. The center portion of the building on the south and east sides was extended slightly outward to break up the flatness of the building, and twin giant six-story-high non-structural Doric columns topped by a non-structural colonnade and entablature. The building is now called Franklin Tower. |
