Summary

[edit]
Description
English: 13 Maiden Lane, 25 and 26 St Mary's Street, Stamford. Grade II Listed No.13, Orme House, along with 25 (Grade II* Listed with 26) was reportedly built around 1766 to 1773 by John Hopkins. Work in March 2003 revealed traces of a porch and the jettied structure of the rear of the house. Timber studs and brick nogging were also revealed, as was the underside of the first storey floor. The methods of construction revealed during this work suggests an earlier date of construction for the building than the late 18th century date assigned to 25 St Mary's Street. Jettying is a structural technique widely used from the 15th to 17th centuries, and the nogging is likely to be 17th century or later.
