Summary
[edit]Description13-17 High Street - geograph.org.uk - 1304869.jpg |
English: 13-17 High Street No 13, the recently closed "Age of Elegance", was when built in the 1930s a branch of International Stores, whose emblem, a bishop's mitre can be seen in the pediment at the top of the building. No 17, now occupied by Robert Ashworth's, was once Boots the Chemists, which now occupies more modern premises on the north side of the High Street. The "Brewery Yard" sign refers to the former brewery of Mellersh and Neale, which used to occupy the site behind the shops in the section of the High Street, and is now a car park for Morrisons supermarket. |
