Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Subramanya is of mythical handsomeness, married to Devasana. Yet he falls in love with Valli, courts her in ways that are a part of Hindu legends, and she becomes his second wife.

This sculpture shows the couple with Subramanya's iconographic peacock behind him. The peacock is known in India for its courtship displays to attract his preferred mate.

The Navabrahma temples are characteristically North Indian style temples, yet the artwork in these temple is a fusion of North India and South Indian ideas, culture. The iconography and cultural items (dress, jewelry) above reflects this fusion of ideas.
