« C'est le 24 décembre 1875 que la Womens' Christian Association of Quebec (WCA) est incorporée. Elle est créée à l'initiative de Mary Gibbens MacNab. L'objectif est de venir en aide aux femmes nouvellement débarquées dans la capitale, qu'elles soient immigrantes ou en provenance des campagnes québécoises. Dès lors, on s'installe à la redoute Dauphine du parc de l'Artillerie récemment abandonnée par les militaires britanniques qui avaient quitté la ville en 1871. En 1911, la WCA se joint à la YWCA pour devenir ainsi le cinquième membre au Canada de cet organisme international. En 1880, elle déménage sur la rue Sainte-Anne, coin Sainte-Ursule, et en 1968 sur la rue Holland où elle est toujours aujourd'hui. À Québec on lui doit notamment la première maternelle gratuite en 1893 et, en 1902, le premier centre de conditionnement physique réservé aux femmes. » - Société historique de Québec
