English: This photomicrograph revealed the presence of numbers of Gram-positive, rod-shaped, Corynebacterium minutissimum bacteria. The bacterium C. minutissimum, is associated with erythrasma, a skin disorder usually involving areas of the skin, where one finds skin-to-skin contact, known as intertriginous regions. This malady is most prevalent in humid, moist areas of the world, and begins as a spreading, reddish rash, which turns a brownish color, then dries, causing the sloughing of flaking skin.
