One of seven Shiva temples in Kalgi, Karnataka

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Kalgi is a village in Chittapur taluk, Gulbarga district. It is about 35 kilometers east of Gulbarga city near the Telangana-Karnataka border.

Kalgi village was once much bigger and a major Deccan city in and before the Western Chalukya era. It hosted many Hindu and Jain temples such as the Mallikarjuna, Suryanarayana, Siddheshwara, Neelakantha and other temples built in 11th to 12th-century CE.

The Mallikarjuna temple is one of the Kalgi group of temples. It is from the Shaivism tradition of Hinduism. It is poor state of cleanliness, maintenance and management. It has, along with other Kalgi temples, been neglected by state and central archaeological offices. In 2021, locals were using it to store their home items and dry clothes.
