Title
1173 Roman trumpet brooch View 2.JPG
Description
English: Cast copper alloy trumpet brooch, length 37mm, width 10mm, thickness 19mm, weight 6.96g. Oval head with a rearward projecting loop on the reverse that would have held the spring. On the top of the head is a loop.

Moulded decoration on the head, with a rope style crest running down to the moulded knee, below which is a double set of engraved crescents, a double engraved line runs down the length of the leg, with a single line flanking. The bottom of the leg is truncated. The top of the catch plate is missing. The artefact was silvered.

Similar examples have been excavated on sites such as Richborough roman temple and would date to the second century (Bayley and Butcher, 2004, 161).
