Title
1167 Medieval scabbard chape.JPG
Description
English: Sheet copper alloy dagger scabbard chape length 33mm, width 12mm, thickness 5mm, weight 3.37g. This is example is made from a plain sheet copper alloy, about 1mm thick, which would have has been folded into a hollow triangular shape. However, the lower section has been truncated and the piece has been flattened and then folded in half along its length.

The overall condition of this object is fair although it has been heavily distorted.

Examples are known from archaeological contexts in London and have been dated to the 14th-16th centuries (Ward, 1967, 280-288).
