Title
1163 Medieval buckle plate.jpg
Description
English: Sheet copper alloy buckle plate length 32mm, width 12mm, thickness >1mm. Rectangular sheet with two projections on the forward end which would have bent around the buckle, there would have been a second rectangular sheet on the end of the projections forming a parallel reverse plate but this has broken away, this is an old break. The attachment end is rounded with a single rivet hole in the centre. Artefacts such as these are known from the end of the Roman Period, through to the end of the Medieval period, therefore a date of 400-1540 is likely.
