Name: Tel Ashdod
Description: Ancient Ashdod was a city that existed in the area since the Paleolithic period. In the 17th century BC, Ashdod is mentioned as a fortified Canaanite city. In the 12th century BC, the Philistines settled there, the city grew and spread outside the boundaries of the Acropolis, becoming one of the five most important Philistine cities.

שם: תל אשדוד
תיאור: אשדוד העתיקה הייתה עיר שהתקיימה באזור עוד מהתקופה הפלאוליתית. במאה ה־17 לפנה"ס נזכרת אשדוד כעיר כנענית מבוצרת. במאה ה־12 לפנה"ס התנחלו בה הפלשתים, העיר גדלה והתפשטה מחוץ לגבולות האקרופוליס, והפכה לאחת מחמש ערי פלשתים החשובות ביותר.
הערות: ם סיום הכיבוש הערבי של ארץ ישראל מידי הביזנטים באמצע המאה ה־7, התהווה בסביבת תל אשדוד כפר ערבי בשם איסדוד, שיבוש של השם "אשדוד". הכפר שכן על מורדות התל, על דרך הים הקדומה, ומרחקו מהים היה כ־5 ק"מ.
