הערות: משטרת היישובים העבריים הייתה כוח משטרה יהודי חוקי שפעל בחסות הבריטים בתקופת המנדט. הסוכנות היהודית הטילה את הטיפול בנוטרים על יהושע גורדון, שמאז מאורעות תרפ"ט (1929) שימש כאיש הקישור שלה למשטרה. הוא עודד את ההתנדבות לנוטרות, וידא שהמועמדים לשירות יהיו נאמנים להגנה ולקו ההנהגה, והשפיע על המשטרה לכוון את פיתוח הנוטרות לצרכי היישוב. כוח עזר זה היה מעוגן בפקודת המשטרה מ-1926 אך ביישוב היהודי, הוא התפתח כזרוע לגאלית של ההגנה בעקבות מאורעות 1936.
