[edit]Description10th century Shiva temple, Masaon Madhya Pradesh.jpg |
English: Location of this monument:
Masaon, also spelled Masaun or Mahsaw, is now a small remote village about 15 kilometers east of Rewa city in Madhya Pradesh. It was an ancient town, likely on a regional trade route that connected historic capitals and many pilgrimage sites in the Baghelkhand and Bundelkhand region. The Masaon village is notable for the uncommon circular plan Hindu temple. Similar circular plan temples are found in several locations south of Yamuna-Ganga; for example in Chandrehe, in several historic villages of Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh (Tenduli, Korari near Ladgawa, etc). The oldest known circular plan Hindu temple and monastery complex is found in Rajgir, Bihar (about 500 CE). This Shiva temple of Mahsaw is on the northern banks of a historic manmade water reservoir. It has a pillared mandapa and Hindu artwork. The sanctum is dedicated to Shiva. Locals call it Kudiya Shiv mandir. This is a JPEG format plan and architectural drawing of a historic Indian temple or monument. The relative scale and relative dimensions in this architectural drawing are close to the actual but neither exact nor complete. The plan illustrates the design and layout, but some intricate details or parts of the temple may not be shown. In cases where exact measurements were not feasible, the drawing uses best approximations and rounds the best measurements feasible. Note: Please do not overwrite this file.
