Description |
English: Cast copper alloy spoon fragment length 36mm, width 20mm, thickness 15mm, weight 4.03g. Rectangular cross-section stem 3mm wide, 5mm high, which gently narrows towards the tip, most of the stem is truncated, this is an old break. The forward part of the stem curves down, forming a semicircle with the spoon bowl attached on the end, only the rear end of the spoon bowl remains, the rest having corroded away. The stem is decorated comprising of a series of incised parallel lines.
Similar spoons have been excavated from Colchester where two examples have been dated to the first half of the 2nd century. |
