Title
1090 Medieval purse bar.jpg
Description
English: Cast copper alloy purse bar length 73mm, width 33mm, thickness 10mm, weight 32.18g. The central part of the purse bar is rectangular, this has a circular hole running through the centre where a swivel is mounted, the base of the swivel has a semicircular knop terminal, the opposite end has the base of a loop with a long oval section neck.

From either side of the central rectangular piece extends a straight bar with a rectangular cross-section, one of which is now bent and both are truncated. Remains of decoration still remains on the central section, consisting of a spiral on one side and a double X on the other, the method of decoration is recesses inset with niello. The artefact is in poor condition with corrosion having removed the original patina, resulting in a light green, pitted surface.

This artefacts dates to the 15th-early 16th century
