Description
English: Copper alloy annular brooch internal diameter 25mm, external diameter 39mm, thickness 2mm, weight 6.16g. This is a flat annular plate with a hole for the pin, on the opposite side, on the inside edge, is a small rectangular slot flanked by raised lips 5mm long and 2mm wide where the tip of the pin could pass through when securing the brooch a garment. The decoration covers the upper surface, comprising of two recessed rectangular lines, each running around one half of the surface, there is a recess running down the middle of each of these lines. The surface was ordinary tinned

This type of brooch is associated with Anglian terrorises, the highest concentration is in the eastern part of the country, but example have been recorded a far south as Kant and north into Yorkshire and extending to the west along the upper Thames valley. Excavated examples demonstrate that there were worn exclusively by women and normally in pairs. The date range for these is 450-575
