Title
1036 Early Medieval stirrup strap mount.jpg
Description
English: Cast copper alloy stirrup strap mount length 54mm, width 39mm, thickness 8mm. Sub-oval with a dished underside. The face of the piece is covered with moulded decoration consisting of a central figure standing. Surrounding the figure is a series or knotwork spirals, some of the spirals appear to be intertwining/ wrapping around the figures hands. There are two circler openwork holes below the armpits, these are just for decoration. The base of the piece is expanded with two rivet holes at the bottom, a lip that would have been rectangular but is now heavily corroded projects from the rear of the base. There is a loop in at the top of the figures head. The artefact is heavily worn obscuring most of the detail. Artefacts such as these are dated to the 11th century.
