English: Cast copper alloy Door Knob style Spear Butt length 43mm, diameter 33mm, thickness 2mm, weight 45.16g

The object is formed by a hollow circular shaft, 14mm in diameter at the top, where it tapers slightly toward the terminal. The sides are 2mm thick but do undulate to 1.5mm thick.

The terminal is circular (33mm diameter) in plan with an ovoid cross-section (14mm thick) and is again hollow. The sides are well rounded, the base has completely corroded away. There is a grooved line on the topside of the terminal, near where the stem joins the terminal. There are two recessed line at the top of the stem

These objects date to either Late Roman or Early-Medieval Period. These are relatively common finds in Ireland, and the moulds are known from northern Scotland.

A similar although slightly larger example has been recorded on the PAS database HAMP-EFC828

The specific date for this artefacts is uncertain and either dates to the middle of the Roman period or the early Early-Medieval date, c. 200-300 AD or 500-600 AD.
