Description10-inch-1896-DC.jpg |
English: This is a 10-inch Coast Artillery gun on a M1896 disappearing carriage. It is "in battery", or in position ready to fire. It appears that the four men (other than the Coast Artillery soldier barely visible at extreme left) are mechanics, and this is not an actual firing drill. The man at right is holding the firing lanyard, while the man on the upper platform is standing where the man looking through the telescopic sight would usually be positioned. This gun had a maximum range of about 7 miles. |
