In 1964, scientists of the Institute of Geology and Geochemistry of the Ural Scientific Center of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR akademician Ovchinnikov L.N. [left in the photo] and the head of the laboratory Dunaev VA. They discovered the age of the oldest rock called the izrandite (the scientific name of the "izrandite": plagioclase-olivine clinopyroxenite) . The outcrop of the narodite, from which samples were taken for research, is located on Karandash Mount in the Southern Urals [photo] not far from the Zlatoust city (Chelyabinsk region). The age of the "izrandite" was determined by the potassium-argon isotope method, two values were obtained: 4.20 ± 0.15 billion years and 3.30 ± 0.10 billion years. Half a century later, the researcher at the laboratory "Radiogeology" of the same Institute, Ronkin Yu. L. [right in the photo], determined the age of the "izrandite" by a modern uranium-lead method: 3.512 ± 0.038 billion years. For the "gray-haired Urals", and so considered an ancient mountain structure, this was a real geological discovery - a pity that it is not officially accepted. "Izrantit" represents blocks of hard rocks of the upper mantle of the Earth, "advanced" to the surface along the most ancient deep fault and forming several outcrops [photo]. The rock has a specific mineralogical composition and a unique internal structure [circle on the left, uvel. 50x], contains "embryos" (grains) of iron-titanium minerals with a specific structure [circle on the right, uv.1500x] forming in the process of geological transformations industrial deposits of titanium ores. The immediate tectonic fault zone has not been studied enough and can present various geological circumstances in the future. In the Urals Geological Museum of Ekaterinburg there is a sample of "izrandit", which is on display, that in recent years, according to the director of the geological museum Kleimenov DA, led to an increase in tourist interest and there were proposals to make an outcrop of the Karandash "a monument of geology."
