Italiano: Reperti dall'Ipogeo delle Cariatidi di Vaste, IV sec. a.C. Tomba ipogea messapica, risalente alla prima età ellenistica. Fu rinvenuta già saccheggiata e semidistrutta nel 1869. Un dromos a scala a cielo aperto scendeva ad uno spiazzo antistante la facciata. Attraverso due porte, ognuna affiancata da due cariatidi in altorilievo, si accedeva a due camere funerarie ipogee. I resti dei fregi, con Eroti che guidano carri trainati da leoni e leonesse, ornavano forse la facciata o, più probabilmente, le pareti del dromos. Una delle cariatidi e uno dei fregi sono copie ottenute dagli originali, che poco dopo il rinvenimento vennero portati al Museo Archeologico di Lecce. |
