[edit]Description1-501st Infantry Regiment conducts biathlon 140307-A-RK974-046.jpg |
English: U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Richard Moore, 2nd Platoon Sgt., Comanche Company, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry Regiment, waits to negotiate a hill on the ski course during the battalion’s biathlon competition March 7 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The purpose of the training is to develop each paratrooper’s ability to ski over variable terrain and rapidly engage targets at 50 meters with accurate fire in arctic conditions. The ski course will cover 5 kilometers of variable terrain while the marksmanship portion will test the fundamentals of marksmanship, rapid and effective manipulation of individual weapon systems, and how to compensate for environmental conditions.
