Description |
English: Long copper alloy hinged clip. Probably for mounting onto a buckle or belt. Appears silvered or tinned. Some corrosion. Probably dates from 19th century onwards.
Upper plate is a cast insect with an oval body segmented into 9 segments. The head is circular and the eyes and 3 tendrills are attached to the end of the head. The reverse is hollow. the underside of the tail end has a rectangular plate attached at perpendicular to the body with a central hook curled backwards. The hook attaches the upper body to the lower clasp and acts as a hinge. The lower plate has a rectangular frame with cut out 5mm wide along its length. The upper edge extends into a large curve which is folded over to create a hook. The clasp opens out at a maximum 90 degree angle. |
