| Description |
D445.1061 at Cagliari on 7 February 2001. The terminus station in the Sardinian capital city where most Trenitalia services heading north start from. At the time of this visit in February 2001 D445 diesel locos on push pull sets along with DMUs worked all services. Note the overhead wires above. The line from Cagliari was electrified at 25kV ac (different to mainland Italy being 3000V dc) during the 1990s initially as far as Oristano. However the project was aborted despite a batch of 19 class 491 locos and 6 more classified 492 being built but never shipped to the island. |
