Description

After delivering her address at the National Congress of Paraguay, President Tsai is given a clay statue “Residenta” by former First Lady of Paraguay and current Senator Emilia Alfaro. (The statue “Residenta” symbolizes women’s will and determination to fight for freedom and survival of the nation. Due to the War of the Triple Alliance (1865-70) between Paraguay on one side, and Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay on the other side, Paraguay lost two-thirds of its adult males. Consequently, Paraguay’s women had to shoulder the responsibilities to raise the next generation and rebuild the nation. “Residenta” recalls this indelible history. (2016/06/28)
