Description

Start of a 3-day holiday weekend in the Czech Republic and for these I concentrated on covering lines that only see a seasonal tourist service. The lines covered once all saw a regular daily or at least Monday to Friday operation by national operator, České dráhy (ČD) but these have either been cut back to a limited weekends during the summer season or handed over to other operators to run the trains. In some cases, the passenger timetable number has changed from a 3 figure numeric one to one prefixed with a T.

The plan for Friday 5 July 2019 (Saints Cyril and Methodius Day) was to cover lines T4, T5 and T6 which took some detailed planning relying on a 5 minute train to bus connection. All worked out well and despite these are privately run trains, the local regional tariff applied and I was able to take advantage of a one day ticket for just CZK130 (approximately £4.60/€5.10 at the time of writing). This covered all trains and buses as well.

Having spent the previous night in Kadaň, the first train was from předměstí rather than the 'main' Kadaň station as the branch from Kadaň-Prunéřov was being electrified at the time of this visit. Railway Capital won the contract to run trains on table T6. As they don't own any stock, they hired in a class 810 from GW Train which in turn was purchased off ČD. Unit 810623 waits for half dozen or so passengers to board before forming train Os18360, 08:22 Kadaň předměstí to Kadaňský Rohozec.
