Zermatt's main station wins no prizes for elegance, however the journey to Visp and then beyond Brig via the Furka Oberalp Pass is one of the most scenic rides in Europe, if not the world. Regional trains operate every 30 minutes to and from Zermatt and some are still hauled working in push-pull operation. Strictly speaking theses are motor luggage vans as opposed to locomotives. Prior to departure is Deh 4/4 no.96 "Münster" on train 332, Zermatt to Fiesch as seen on 5 February 2019. In addition to regional trains to Brig and Beyond plus the famous Glacier Express, Zermatt sees a frequent shuttle service to Täsch which is the limit for fuel driven cars. Täsch therefore operates as a park and ride station for those staying and passing through Zermatt. Zermatt only sees battery driven vehicles for deliveries, taxis etc. |
