Français : Batterie de la pointe de Brest - vue de la batterie de la pointe à Brest. Les boulets de canon sont rangés en piles oblongues. A l'arrière-plan, on aperçoit le château de Brest.
Cette photographie fait partie de la série réalisée durant l'été 1858 à l'occasion de la rencontre des flottes françaises et anglaises à Brest et Cherbourg. Le photographe officiel de cet événement n'était pas Gustave Le Gray mais Edouard Baldus. On connaît trois photographies de Brest réalisées par Gustave Le Gray en 1858, une vue générale du port, deux vues figurant la batterie de la pointe de Brest dont celle ci. Le lieu était aussi appelé parc de la Pointe. Les batteries étaient installées dans l'avant-port sur la rive droite de la rivière Penfeld. Vers 1855, le parc de la Pointe renfermait les batteries d'école. A cette époque, l'observatoire des élèves du vaisseau-école, les magasins aux mitrailles, les ateliers des artifices et des caisses à poudre fulminante, les poudrières et les parcs à petits projectiles sont installés dans les bâtiments du parc de la Pointe. Aujourd'hui, les batteries et les bâtiments n'existent plus. Des installations modernes de l'arsenal et du port militaire, ateliers et bassin, occupent le terrain de la Pointe. |
