Title
04F751. Medieval mount
Description
English: Two fragments, possibly of the same gilded copper alloy mount. A central square plate which narrows and then tapers into a round-ended tab at one side which has a forward projecting stud at the terminus. The central plate has openwork decoration and a relief, probably zoomorphic design. The central plate is quite corroded, but retains some gilding. Where the plate narrows before constricting further into the tab is a large circular attachment hole. The second, smaller piece is the similar to the narrowed attachment element described above, complete with stud and attachment hole. It is also gilded and corroded. It is not immediately apparent how this attaches to the first piece. The dimensions in the fileds below are for the larger piece, those for the smaller piece are as follows; 22.15 mm x 16.2 mm x 6.43 mm, weight 2.70 g.
