Summary
[edit]Description02023 Antenna sword, 8th century BC, Northeastern Alps, Nieczajna.jpg |
English: Małopolski Instytut Kultury w Krakowie; zobacz więcej: www.muzea.malopolska.pl ;;;fot. Małopolski Instytut Kultury w Krakowie The grip of the sword hilt is biconical, oval in cross-section, with an ornament of oblique lines and with three grooved circumventing ribs, while the crossguard is bell-shaped, with slightly bent prongs. There is a visible long crack on the sword grip. The sword blade is double-edged, straight, slightly narrowing towards the end (the tip is broken off), with slight, parallel to the blades profiling in the form of two ribs along the outer part and two fullers along the inner part. The blade is blunt and slightly jagged. The sword is covered with dark green patina.
X-ray images of the sword, in which we do not see gas bubbles in the grip, but only a few in the blade, indicates its very good quality. Swords of a similar form are referred to as the Tarquinia type (named after an Italian town). It is the only specimen of this type found in Poland. It was brought from the North-Eastern Alps to the lands on the Vistula, in the Lusatian culture environment. |
