Summary
[edit]Description02010030 scrap yard in Goiânia.jpg |
English: The scrap yard at Rua 6 in Goiânia, Brazil, was home to one of the world's worst radiation accidents in 1987. Cesium chloride from an abandoned radioactive source spread undetected for over two weeks. Some 250 people were contaminated and four died in the first month. The event focused international attention on the issue of safety standards for radioactive sources. Its lessons still shape national and global actions decades later.
