4-wheel railcar haters had better look away or skip the next few photos as I upload a batch of Hungarian branch line termini shots with a single car Bzmot railcar with no trailer as the train. As detailed elsewhere, these cars were built in the former Czechoslovakia by Studenka and to this day are still running around on many secondary lines in Hungary as well as in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Love them or hate them, it was the only way to cover such lines as these. Due to poor track condition in many cases lines would often have speed restrictions as low as 20 kmph. During a 10 minute turnaround on a frosty February morning, Bzmot 389 is ready to work train 37355, 10:18 Battonya to Mezőhegyes. The date was 2 February 1998 during a memorable winter trip to Hungary almost exactly 14 years before these photos were uploaded here on Flickr. Thankfully, the line still survives today. |
