Spent 13 hours in my second home today, and right now, I've got my feet up, resting them in my main home. Tonight was a usual Friday night, a little hectic with a man short in the kitchen. The person I was running the make table with wasn't the strongest to be my buddy tonight. Around 7pm, I had enough struggling to get caught up with orders, and they weren't helping out much with that. They seemed to be more interested in chatting and taking their time. Mixing with my exhaustion, and knowing that I had things to still take care of before I could go home (at 8pm, originally), my fuse was becoming quickly short. Getting away from the situation, like cutting romaine, allowed me to cool off, and I was asked if I would stick around an extra hour for the guy cutting the pizza above, and I agreed because I can use every hour I can get. Things started slowing down a bit, and I got in the zone around 7:30 and began flipping the make table. From all the business throughout the night, the area where the pizzas are made was looking pretty dirty, and since the way I was trained years ago by flipping make tables (honestly, if you've done one, you've done them all) I began cleaning all the exposed areas of the table. While I was doing that, my partner was making any orders that would come up. When they saw me starting to spray the top of the table with a foodsafe cleaning solution, they suggested that I shouldn't do that... and I immediately cut them off. They of course got offended right away because I told them basically I didn't need to be trained on how to clean, and this is the way I clean the make table. For the next 15 - 20 minutes, I fumed while they went outside to have their second cigarette within an hour. As for myself, I had been there since 8am and had only taken one 30 minute break while they came in at 4pm. The good thing about it was after they came back, everything was kosher with them. I did explain my ways, and they even offered to help do one of my jobs that evening. I appricated it, but something else came to light. There seems to be another cook who likes to spread gossip and talk behind others backs. When I was ranting about the cook working with me while they were on their cigarette break, the other cook that was working on the cut table (not the guy above) went and told my buddy what I had said, or at least, I assume so. They both disappeared somewhere within 10 minutes upon their return from that said cigarette. This is one thing I hate about working with a group of people. I hate drama, and honestly, my trust in both of these people, especially the one who was not my table buddy, has diminished extremely. Now, I know it's not good to make assumptions, but when I worked with both of them on Wednesday night, they were quick to gossip about other employees usage of drugs, amongst other things. The disappearing tonight just seems to reinforce that these people still have the high school drama mentality. |
