Summary

[edit]
Description

English: The fortress of Pliego is located in a strategic place since dominating the current population, the old fortified town of La Mota, also known as Castle of the Paleras, and the water channel of the river Pliego. It's an impressive element of control of the territory. But its origins don't seem very clear. Some authors date its construction from the 12th century, and claim that its construction in the Islamic period responds to the intention to give shelter to the inhabitants of La Mota. However, is the possibility of a later building, already in Christian times and under the lordly domain of the order of Santiago.

Their State of conservation, relatively good and restored in some areas a few years ago, allows us to contemplate a fully constructed defensive work with an excellent mud mortar, with a few elements in which it's still possible to distinguish elevation complete with his footsteps of round and battlements. Pliego Castle is declared of Cultural interest by the second additional provision of law 16/1985 of 25 June on Spanish historical heritage.
