English: The Rama temple of Thriprayar, also called Sree Ramaswami temple of Triprayar, is an 11th-century Hindu temples complex on the banks of Triprayar river. The primary shrine is one of the largest circular plan temple in Kerala whose roof is covered with copper. In front is a namaskara mandapam with pyramidal roof, also covered with copper.
The main temple is dedicated to the Vishnu avatar Rama of the Ramayana epic fame. The temple faces east, has a granite adhisthana and octagonal kumuda. Inside are two rows – one with 24 pillars and another with 12 pillars – placed on a concentric circular plan. The sanctum has a square floor plan. The jagati has an inscription of a Sankara Kunrappolan of Muruganadu village. It says that he gave a gift to help cover temple's expenses and for lamp oil. The complex has subshrines for Sastha, Devi, Shiva and Ganesha. |
