Description
  • Italiano: Il cosiddetto pseudo-atleta di Delos, statua di personaggio romano, alta 2,25 metri, proveniente da Delos e conservata al Museo archeologico nazionale di Atene. Si tratta di un'importante opera della statuaria romana, tra i prototipi delle statue cosiddette "achillee" (termine usato da Plinio), dove un ritratto realistico di un personaggio era posto su un corpo nudo in atteggiamento eroico. È databile agli ultimi decenni del II secolo a.C., prima della perdita di importanza di Delos in seguito alle guerre mitridatiche e confrontabile con l'Ofellio Fero.
  • English: The so-called Pseudo-athlete of Delos, an ancient Roman sculpture combining a realistic portrait with an idealised (athletic) body. Found in Delos, in the "House of the Diadoumenos", dates from around 80 AD. Currently on display in Room 31 of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Nr 1828.
