Ruins of a temple

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Gudhiyari temples complex is a 13th century site in Bastar district. It is named after the ancient manmade water reservoir to the north of the temples complex, and sometimes spelled Gudiyari talab or Godiyari pond. The complex consists of a collection of ruins and foundations of several lost temples. A notable discovery here is a Nagari inscription that helps date this temple. The inscription has now been moved to the district museum. The complex included at least one Shiva temple, given the Shiva linga, Umamaheshwara and Ganesha artwork have survived. There are other ruins here of both Vishnu and Durga traditions. Of these, the Mahisasuramardini panel is notable. The site remains popular with regional Hindus, particularly on Maha Shivaratri, despite the missing structures.
